    Midsummer Autotest

Seventeen competitors, including three from the Historic Rally Car Club, took part in the Midsummer Autotest last Sunday. Despite heavy overnight rain, Neil’s field was in good condition and dried out surprisingly well during the day. The Pettit Mini was put to good use again with four drivers, three of which won awards. Keith took the FTD trophy daughter Nicola 1st in class and Jonny Tovy was the fastest overall in the production car class.

    Other award winners were:

    Martin Cheshire (Mini) 1st class

    Simon Groves (Dutton) 1st

    Bob Tatum (Kia) 2nd

    Peter Mountain (Dellow) 2nd

Pippa Inglis (Audi A3) 2nd Mark Tompkins (Cleo) 3rd

    News update

While your local friendly Postman keeps your falcon magazine safely locked away in his sorting office, May I remind you that the Midsummer Autotest is on Sunday 1st July. We already have a good entry of nearly 20 but there are still a few places left if you want to enter. Call Richard Tompkins to confirm your entry or Email him at:

We will of course need a few marshals to help out again, contact Richard to offer your help. The event is starting earlier than usual at 10.30, so set the alarm a little earlier.

The Following Wednesday is Club night at the Bull in Redbourn, and on Friday 6th it’s the Fish & chip Run. Places are also available. Contact Mike Hayward at mike_hayward34@hotmail.com to enter.

New boy Robert Banner took the P2 class ahead of Rally girl Pippa Inglis. Mark Tompkins was the other P2 award winner. David Smoley took the combined Class C & D trophy in a very dirty Westfield. Arnold Lane was 2nd in Class A ahead of another Rally man John Larkin in another Mini.

    News update

After several false starts I can confirm that the 4th annual Fish & Chip run will take place on Friday 6th July. A route has been devised and tried.

Starting from the car park of Ampthill Park The 40 mile route will take in some pretty Bedfordshire villages with nice views, a river, some nice houses a famous building (or two) and pass close to at least 2 airfields before finishing at our favourite Fish & Chip shop in Hitchin Town centre.

Before that we have the Spring Fever Autotest next weekend 13th May. We already have enough entries to confirm the event will go ahead all we need is a few marshals to help out. Please contact Mike Hayward with your offers of help to mike_hayward34@hotmail.com

Following the Autotest it’s the Big Classical Gas Quiz. Held at the Dunstable Rugby Club. Michael Leete and the Classical Gas editorial team will be hosts for the evening. At least 3 other clubs are invited to challenge member’s general knowledge. Should be a great evening.

    Edlesborough Trial

We have a fantastic entry for Sundays Edlesborough Trial (30+) and we will need a fantastic bunch of marshals to cope with everyone. If you can help please come along and lend your support. The first car starts at 10am. You will need to bring some sandwiches as well as suitable clothing. If you can help please Email mike_hayward34@hotmail.com

I will have to change the date of the Fish & Chip run again, as half the potential entry will be travelling north on the date advertised. Sorry for messing you all about.
